DESCRIPTION:Doocot Open Day - part of Fife Doors Open Days				\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n						\n					\n			\n						\n				\n									  Bogward Doocot\, St Andrews – Open Sunday 6th September 12-4pm.   Don’t miss this rare opportunity to glimpse inside of this magnificent sixteenth century “beehive” structure\, containing 800 nesting boxes\, thought to have been built by the Priory of St Andrews.    Learn about how this building was used to provide meat\, eggs and natural fertiliser from the pigeons. See the ingenious design and how the potence (rotating) ladder was used to reach the nests.    Restored by the St Andrews Preservation Trust between 1962 and 1974 and allocated Grade A listed status by Historic Environment Scotland in 1971\, the Doocot is now in need of further repair and restoration. Come and speak to us about the plans to safeguard this building for future generations.    Stewards will be on site with doocot information leaflets\, and general information about the St Andrews Preservation Trust\, our goals\, events and membership.    Find us: 44 Doocot Road\, St Andrews KY16 8QP one mile out of central St Andrews\, you can be reached it on foot via the Lade Braes walk or by car via the Canongate or Hepburn Gardens\, turn into Bogward and then Doocot Road.   Booking not required.
