DESCRIPTION:Doocot Open Day – part of Fife Doors Open Days\n  \nBogward Doocot\, St Andrews – Open Sunday 6th September 12-4pm. \n  \nDon’t miss this rare opportunity to glimpse inside of this magnificent sixteenth century “beehive” structure\, containing 800 nesting boxes\, thought to have been built by the Priory of St Andrews.  \n  \nLearn about how this building was used to provide meat\, eggs and natural fertiliser from the pigeons. See the ingenious design and how the potence (rotating) ladder was used to reach the nests.  \n  \nRestored by the St Andrews Preservation Trust between 1962 and 1974 and allocated Grade A listed status by Historic Environment Scotland in 1971\, the Doocot is now in need of further repair and restoration.
