How You Can Donate – The St Andrews Preservation Trust

Donate

The Museum thrives on the generous donations of its visitors. We use these donations to ensure the Museum continues to thrive and is able to preserve our collection of over 26,000 items.

There are also a number of Trust projects detailed below.

If you would like further information on any of our projects, or would like to enquire about supporting something that is not named here, contact us at trust@stapt.org.uk.

Donate to Support our Current Projects

The Boase Wood was bequeathed to the Trust by Philip Boase. The Boase Wood is an area of natural beauty and provides a stunning nature walk. Dropwood is also collected and then turned into homeware for sale exclusively at the St Andrews Heritage Museum and Garden.

The Boase Wood

Our volunteers keep this woodland tended, and your kind donations maintain the paths and signs used daily by many St Andreans.

Moreover your donations employ tree surgeons to ensure that the wood continues to grow sustainably so all can enjoy walking the wood.

We are currently in the process of redeveloping the Museum and Garden; we aim to have an exhibition hall and toilets for visitors.

This redevelopment will allow us to show off more of our extensive collection, and to create a space for people to relax and explore the social history of St Andrews

Museum Redevelopment

Thanks to the support of numerous volunteers and members throughout the years, as well as an NLHF Stage 1 pass, plans for the redevelopment of the St Andrews Heritage Museum and Garden are well underway.

Community Outreach

The St Andrews Preservation Trust not only works to preserve the heritage of St Andrews, but also works with the local community which make up that heritage.

In collaboration with Families First

Donate to Support Ongoing Work

The St Andrews Preservation Trust has several long-term commitments which your donations directly fund.

Doocots

We maintain the historic dovecots (or locally, Doocots). These were used to house pigeons and doves for eggs and meat in centuries past. Now we keep them clean and safe, opening the Bogward Doocot once a year for the public to enjoy.

Museum Garden

The Museum Garden at 12 North Street, an ever-popular part of the museum grounds, takes a lot of hard work and love but also it needs seeds, tools and maintenance. It is with your donations that our volunteer gardeners can really bring out the best of our hidden gem.

Local Events

Our events are the talk of the town, such as the ever-popular Hidden Gardens, which will celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2023, and our ever-busy Fairs. It is with your donations that we can continue to bring these activities to the people of St Andrews and beyond.

Annual Talks

Every year we invite academics and knowledgeable local people to give talks on the history and culture of St Andrews. In 2022 we had discussions on the history of the town’s iconic layout, the history of golf and the idiosyncratic furniture of the East Neuk. Bringing the history of St Andrews back to life is a passion of ours and with your support we will be able to continue to show you the history less explored.

Maintaining our Collection

In our collection we have 26,000 items. To properly take care of them all, we need to control temperature and humidity. We take measurements every three months to stay in line with Spectrum’s primary procedures standards. We also maintain a collections management system where objects are numbered  and we have regular audits to ensure our objects are stored in the perfect environment. Your donation will cover the costs of our equipment and the resources needed to carry out this essential work.
